Hey, remember yesterday when I wrote about how much I loved Swoop, Hailey Leithauser’s debut collection? Remember how I bet that you wanted to read the rest of “‘Was You Ever Bit by a Dead Bee?'”
Well, want no more! Here’s a link to the full text of the poem, with a special bonus: an audio recording of the poet herself reading it!
Joy-buzzer buzz!
I was too! It is the only time I’ve been stung, by stepping on a dead bee. 🙂
I bet it hurts! I’ve only been stung twice (by live bees) and good lord, ouch. I’m allergic, though, so maybe that makes a difference. There has to be a joke in there about hives and the hive . . .
What a fun poem! And I hope this doesn’t come out the wrong way, but it reminds me of some children’s text – I can’t remember which one – and I mean that in a good way. There is something lively and playful about it.
That’s very astute — her poetry is both lively and playful!
This is a great poem. So joyous!
I’m so glad you like it! And I agree.
