“the pell-mell / of bombard- and basilisk-mist”

Who doesn’t love a good poem about history?

Paul Muldoon’s “Bosworth Field,” from Horse Latitudes (2006) is a vivid, slyly intimate look at Richard III’s last moments on the battlefield as the future Henry VII approaches. It’s one of my new favorite poems, and the next time I teach Richard III, I’ll be giving “Bosworth Field” to my students, too.
